IIT JEE Mains

JEE popularly known as Joint Entrance Examination is basically conducted in two parts- JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. The difference lies between them is that JEE Advanced is meant for the admissions to IITs and Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad; whereas the JEE Mains focus regarding the admissions to IIITs, NITs, CFTIs and IIEST Shibpur. The institutes like Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology, Indian Institute of Science and Indian Institute of Science Education and Research consider the marks obtained at JEE Advanced as the criteria of their admission. The JEE Main is conducted by CBSE and is considered to be the largest engineering exams held all over the country.

The exams have been directed for decades and have gone through various changes in its question pattern since 2010. The cut-offs are announced by then and the candidates are authorized to have their answer sheets. This all became possible with a long stretched legal war raised by one of the notable IIT Kharagpur professor Rajeev Kumar. The JEE Mains and the Advanced has different modes of assessment. The JEE Mains come with two papers, which allows the candidates to choose between one. Paper-1 is meant for admission in the subject matter of B.Tech and B.E, whereas Paper-2 is meant for the admission in B.Arch and B.Planning.

Engineering aspirants must attempt Paper-1 and Architecture aspirants need to go for Paper-2. The papers contain multiple choice question. The subject combination for each paper varies, each directed for 3 hours. Paper-1 combines Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, modes based on online as well as offline. Paper-2 combines Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawings, modes available as offline only. The eligibility criteria for JEE (Main) & JEE (Advanced) are different. Candidates who have passed their Boards and they must have cleared at least 5 subjects on QE. The date-of-birth must be on or after October 1991 (as per 2016). The number of attempts which a candidate can avail for Main is limited to three times.

The difficulty level of the questions remains the same for all over the session. The students need to solve the tougher version of the questions which are available in the internet. For offline (pen & paper) test, JEE question paper will be available in different sets and for online, question papers are sent via email. JEE Main act as the qualifying stage for the students to appear in the Advanced. Lakhs of students appear for both the examination, where almost 60% gets qualified for their admissions in IITs and IIITs. CBSE they take the responsibility to publish the merit list.

CSAB acts as another independent board comes in action and uses the merit list for the seat allocation purpose. Though some of the admission procedures were taken forth by the Central Counselling Board, but with this year they are termed as CSAB for the seat allocation process.JoSSA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority) was introduced last year merging both the counselling boards of JEE.
